Present:   Jim, Scott, Doug, Chris P, Chris S.

Absent: Brent, Roman, Julie

Announcements:

1.  Bruce Kiefer arriving Sept 13-Oct 2, to learn end-to-end deployment procedures.  Don Peters from EOM also coming for a day to observe.

2.  Vanessa here from Aug 30 to Sept 20

3.  Liz O. will be here in Sept for cruise

Issues:

  • Pressure issues on all cores.
    • We believe we've found the problem, which seemed to have become exacerbated when we added the larger o-ring in the PEEK. This gave the puck more surface area to 'push back' on the clamp, and we were operating near the capacity of the springs, thus the pucks would leak/not hold pressure.  The fix is relatively simple.  Doug has chosen some springs to 'double-up' above and below the puck, and we will go to a softer aluminum coupling b/w motor and ball screw.  This pressure issue is only and issue with the fine porosity filters, which are not used in HAB operation, so it is not a critical path issue for McLane, although something they will be notified about.
    • Moe will go through it's final check-out next week, and if the current SH1 and WCR pressures work, we will not exchange any springs until after the BIOSPACE deployment.
  • E/M cables.
    • We currently have 2 'long' and 3 'short' EM cables:
      • LONG
        • one 22m cable is currently on Drifer
        • one 20m cable has an incipient bird-cage near the middle (6m) and needs the bending strain relief (BSR) repaired.
      • SHORT
        • two 15m cables (currently one is deployed w/ NEO, one is here at MBARI)
        • one has end cut off to fix BSR
    • We must repair one (to have 5 cables); Scott will decide Monday after talking to Gene/Paul.
    • We need to purchase more cable this winter.
  • ISUS
    • Drawings for ISUS 4K housing are finished and have been checked by Ray (thanks Doug).
    • Will have a meeting with Ken Johnson and Luke to approve.
    • Also need to discuss what equipment SURF has and wants them to build, so we only need to tap the Johnson group once/year for calibrations.
    • Meeting slated for Tuesday, Aug 31, 11am.
    • Must also figure out how to power ISUS.  Using ESP batteries saves us from $15K battery housing, but does it run off a power converter?
  • Spares
    • Unknown what spares we have and/or where things are located in the lab.  Waiting for Roman to return from vacation and we will do major reorganization, and possible re-order of parts, in particular spare PTV and CTV's.
  • Antenna at Abe's house has not been mounted, as it did not arrive on Monday.  Scott will work next week to schedule another time.  Unlikely to work mounted on fascia.
  • MARS wet-mate connector PO (#1011191) approved today.
Machines
Bruce

Scott and Jim worked on PTV, finding that it does not hold pressure.  Found an old used PTV; disassembled, both look similar.  We swapped rotors and are pressure testing this combination over the weekend.

Mack

All reagents are on (except HAB/DA).  Chris will run WCR/Bac/WCR  with runs through the weekend.  Monday is puck-fest.  Load them on Tuesday, can on Weds and give to Gene on Thurs/Friday.  That is also the day of the post-can QC.  Drifter gets loaded on Weds, Sep 8.  Chris to assemble materials to keep Mack cool.

MOE

Scott fixed broken traces on collection temp sensor.  Chris doing series of runs over weekend, getting ready for Julie handoff.

NEO

currently in water at M0. will get latest firmware when recovered (Aug 30).  Jim and Scott to get Monday am. 6:30 for 7:00.

Gordon

Still in the ball.

Betty
